Cornerstone utilizes the Math in Focus program for our 1st-4th grade students. This curriculum is based on Singapore Math and is well known for its emphasis on problem solving. Concepts are taught using real world, hands-on experiences.
We recognize that it is equally important for our students to have automaticity when learning the fact families. The memorization of facts depends on a home-school partnership that will be consistent and frequent. Below you will find the math fact progression we follow 1st through 4th grade. A daily drill of math facts at home is necessary and will help your child in memorizing the required facts.
Grade 1: Addition & Subtraction
Parent-Child Drill Time: 5 minutes a night
Grade 2: Addition, Subtraction & Introduction to Multiplication
Parent-Child Drill Time: 8 minutes a night
Grade 3: Multiplication & Division
Parent-Child Drill Time: At least 10 minutes a night
Grade 4: Multiplication & Division
Parent-Child Drill Time: At least 10 minutes a night
Students are expected to have these facts mastered by the 2nd semester.
