General Music

In grades K-4, students attend music class once per week for 45 minutes. Students are actively engaged in writing, playing and creating music as well as moving to music using the ORFF Schulwerk model for teaching music in the classroom. The recorder is introduced in 4th grade. Lower school students also prepare for grade level class plays and the annual Grandparents Day and Christmas programs.

In 5th & 6th grade, students attend a music elective every day for 6 weeks. Students continue to write, create and play through music and drama and the Orff Schulwerk approach, as well as continue playing the recorder. Students in 5-8 grade may also join the middle school chorus.

"Cornerstone checks all the boxes for our family. The staff provides a safe and nurturing environment for our child to learn and grow into her gifts, with a strong emphasis on leadership, independence and good moral character. Academically they provide the rigor and tools that challenge and build confidence. This has helped to foster our daughter’s innate curiosity and critical thinking and a love of learning. Cornerstone is more than a school, it is a community, and it has given our family so much more than we ever anticipated."
